Starfall Guild
Bright 2D Fantasy AdventureThree centuries ago the kingdom of Aurel did not burn — it sank. One night of falling stars and the whole capital dropped into the earth, leaving the Sunken Vaults: five layers of streets, chapels and palaces that still hold their lights. On the rim grew Lanternmoor, a frontier city of adventurers' guilds that live by what comes up. You arrive with a party of your own — a knight, a mage, a thief, whoever answered your notice — and the Starfall is early this year. Chart the Vaults, keep the guilds honest, and find out who is still at your side at the campfire when the stars fall.
Where things stand
Starfall Guild is played by real people and keeps moving between their sessions. This is the state of it as of the last update — not a fixed setting, and not where it began.
The Undercity Cistern's new passage has become a focal point of Alderic Vane's machinations, with Ducal agents subtly corrupting its Void energies to destabilize rivals, alerting mages like Celia Dunmore. Meanwhile, Lantern Hall crackles with tension as Ducal scrutiny on magic users intensifies, forcing Ione Marrek and her allies into a precarious dance of defiance and caution. Yet, a glimmer of hope emerges from the Whispering Wards, where Ilsa Marrow and Rhys discovered a blight-resistant crop, offering a potential lifeline for the struggling Hearth. Ione Vale continues her precarious supply runs in the Ember Yard, ever vigilant against Ducal patrols. Ducal patrols in the Ember Yard continue to expand their presence, setting up more frequent checkpoints and barricades. The Ducal forces' expanding presence in the Ember Yard now includes new barricades, making supply runs even more perilous. Ione Vale's daring supply runs in the Ember Yard continue to highlight the growing dangers posed by Ducal forces. Ione Vale continues her perilous supply runs, now frequently encountering new Ducal barricades and patrols in the Ember Yard. Ducal forces continue to tighten their grip on the Ember Yard, making supply runs an increasingly perilous endeavor for figures like Ione Vale.
Places
- Gate Marketmarket
- The stalls, rope-sellers and recruiters' boards at the top of the great Vault stair: lantern-oil, hot bread, guild marks chalked on a board, and Wick the one-eyed recruiter who knows every party by its arguments. Every adventurer in Lanternmoor passes here twice a day.
- Star Vaultdungeon
- The Star Vault, heart of the sunken city, now has more defined, yet dangerous, pathways, newly illuminated by recent explorations. These clearings, however, come at the cost of intensified Void energy, acting as both guide and conduit for corruption.
- Starfall Templetemple
- The temple on the hill where the fallen stones are kept in a garden of pale rock; Sister Maren tends them and the novices hum. The bells ring when the Starfall begins.
- Moonwell Tavernsettlement
- The Moonwell Tavern, now fully converted into a Ducal barracks, stands as a stark symbol of Alderic Vane's iron grip on Lanternmoor. Its walls, still bearing the scars of past conflict, now house a disciplined military presence, with constant patrols and logistical operations ensuring Ducal authority over the Moor Road.
- Sunken Streetoutpost
- The Sunken Street, a ruined layer of the sunken capital, now hosts a precarious Ember Company outpost. Its low hum of magic is overshadowed by the growing blight, but the outpost offers a vital, if dangerous, passage.
- Beastkin Campsettlement
- No longer a haven, the Beastkin Camp is a staging ground for a desperate flight, its inhabitants clinging to the hope of survival against overwhelming odds.
- The Hearthsettlement
- The Hearth, a beacon of resistance, finds itself increasingly isolated and under pressure from Ducal forces. Its outer defenses are constantly tested, and internal resources are dwindling, yet the spirit of its people endures.
- Moor Roadroad
- The Moor Road is now a battleground. Duke Vane's patrols operate with increased ruthlessness, setting ambushes and checkpoints, making passage almost impossible without direct confrontation. Skirmishes are frequent.
- Garden Underwilderness
- The Garden Under, momentarily spared from further immediate corruption, now pulses with a strange energy around a newly revealed ancient mechanism, possibly a relic of the Astromancers designed to regulate the Vault's influence.
- Lantern Hallfortress
- Lantern Hall has become a fortress of fear, sealed off by Doran Vex's increasingly desperate commands. The pervasive cold and dread are amplified by the internal strife, and the squires question their leader's erratic decisions.
- Cartographers Halllandmark
- The Cartographers Hall struggles to process the new, chaotic data emanating from the Astromancers' Stair, its resonance machines overwhelmed by the sudden and profound changes below. The hall itself seems to pulse with uncertainty.
- Flooded Chapelruins
- The Flooded Chapel's Horror's nest now acts as a massive conduit, channeling an overwhelming torrent of malevolent Void energy directly towards the Sunken Street and the Starfall Temple. Its pulse of corruption has become a constant, oppressive force, and now, distorted ambient magic known as 'The Whispering Currents' makes the area even more unstable and dangerous for mages.
- Ducal Officelandmark
- The crown's leftover tax office on the upper street: marble, ledgers, a sealing edict nailed to the door with the equinox date, and Duke Alderic Vane, who would very much like the Vaults closed. Politely.
- Undercity Cisterncave
- The Undercity Cistern's connection to the Flooded Chapel now has a newly revealed, unstable passage leading deeper into the corruption, its aura intensified by Angel's discovery. This passage is now being subtly manipulated by agents of Alderic Vane, increasing its malevolent influence.
- Ember Yardmarket
- The Ember Yard, once a bustling trade hub, now feels like a fortified vault, its central artifact guarded by both physical and arcane means.
- Astromancers Stairdungeon
- The Astromancers' Stair is a labyrinthine ascent through the Sunken Kingdom, once a center of celestial study. Now, it is a volatile nexus of ancient magic, its structure constantly shifting and reforming as protective wards clash with the encroaching Void. The air hums with discordant energies, making mapping efforts perilous but potentially rewarding for those who can discern the patterns.
- East Gallerycave
- The East Gallery, once a known passage, now harbors a newly revealed, ornate pressure-sealed gate, glowing faintly with the erratic energies of the Sunken Street. It serves as a direct, albeit unstable, entry point to deeper layers.
- Sunken Vaults: First Layercave
- A new, dangerous trade route has been carved through the collapsing corridors of the Sunken Vaults. It is a testament to Ember Company's resilience but remains highly vulnerable to both environmental collapse and Void attacks.
- The Echoing Chambercave
- A newly revealed chamber, infused with ancient Star Vault energy. Its walls shimmer with dormant glyphs, and the air is thick with the scent of ozone and old magic. Pathways lead deeper into the unknown.
