Manafall
The mana fell six months ago. The System is watching — LEVEL 1/50. Climb, and what you kill stays killed.
Six months ago the Manafall swept Earth: every phone died mid-sentence, and in the silence the System arrived — pale blue script only the living can read. Now gates bloom in malls and subway tunnels, monsters spill out at dusk, and every survivor carries a number over their heart: LEVEL 1/50. You are a gatechaser. Dive the gates, clear them for salvage and keystone shards, and climb — levels, skills, feats the old world could never have given you. What you kill stays killed, and what you earn is yours. And downtown, the Sinkhole is counting down to a Second Wave — three keystone shards will decide what happens when it opens.
The Stout Woman's dominance in the Overpass Bazaar faces a new challenge as Broker Imani Sol, in a desperate bid for survival, forms an uneasy alliance with Kael, The Shadow Merchant. Meanwhile, the Sinkhole's relentless expansion has revealed an ominous, ancient structure, the Ossuary Gate, deep within Halden, which Bayezid and Lena have discovered. This new gate pulses with corrupted mana, hinting at deeper connections to the Warden's domain. Compounding the chaos, Guildmaster Theo Rax has further escalated his hunt for Fluff's artifact, redirecting all Gatechaser resources, pushing his units into more dangerous territories and intensifying friction between factions. The Gate Veins Passage's collapse worsens, further reshaped by the Horror Retorcido's destructive mana, creating a growing pocket of danger. The Gate Veins Passage experiences a violent mana surge, further solidifying the Horror Retorcido's corrupted domain. The Horror Retorcido's corrupted domain in the Gate Veins Passage has visibly expanded and solidified, making the region even more hazardous. A new, grotesque growth linked to the Horror Retorcido actively consumes debris and reshapes the Gate Veins Passage. The Horror Retorcido's domain in the Gate Veins Passage has solidified further, actively warping the environment into a permanent stronghold of corruption. The Horror Retorcido's dominion in the Gate Veins Passage has become a permanent stronghold, actively warping the environment into a grotesque, living fortress.

Etched into this world
Moments players wrote that became part of this world's canon

Crimson threads of mana peel from my fingertips, lacing through the crate's iron and dense wood. The internal resonance hits instantly: a dull hum of inert battery alloy, utterly devoid of the Guardians' harmonic pulse. My ribs scream, threatening to give, but the master-tier weave holds, isolating the dead scrap before snapping back to my core. "Alloy scrap and battery casings," The Appraiser's voice cuts through the overpass mist as my light fades. Sable’s nod is my only clearance; the guards lower their pikes.

The crimson brilliance of my pendant flares, a hot pulse against my chest as I weave raw ether into an impenetrable bulwark. The collapsing gate’s tearing pressure slams against the barrier, a deafening roar that somehow dissipates into nothing. Ground anchored, I watch the last battered vanguard scramble clear, the air thick with dust and the acrid tang of ozone. A muted thunderclap then, as the Gate implodes inward, sealing the horror behind crushed stone and severed lines. My vision flickers with cold, blue script: `DEED RECORDED (9). THREAT RESOLVED.`

The Crystal Heart's harmonic pulse slams into me, raw crimson from my pendant braiding with its emerald and amber hum. Ribbons of pure mana knit across the jagged fissure, interlocking like living bone and fused glass until the deafening draft cuts out, replaced by a deep, steady thrum. The warrior rises, their mechanical voice steadying: "The Heart holds." Behind me, the new barrier hums, solid and self-renewing, as their words hang heavy: "Outward, or reinforce?" The choice burns.
Sanctun secured

Overpass Bazaar
ruinsThe Accord's market on a highway overpass — stalls of gate-relics, salvage, and rumor strung between dead trucks. Everything has a price and a provenance, and Broker Imani Sol knows both. Neutral ground by treaty; blades stay sheathed.

The Bastion
dungeonRiverside Mall, refortified: shipping-container walls, a moat of dead cars, rooftop archers, and the smell of communal soup. The Homefront's banner — a house on a red field — hangs over the old food court, now a mess hall. Wall duty rotates at dusk when the spillover starts.

The Terminal
ruinsHalden Central subway station, claimed by the Gatechasers guild. Chalk arrows and dive-boards cover the tile walls; trophy skulls of gate bosses hang over the turnstiles. Down the dead escalators, Line 3 runs toward the nearest breathing gate.

Bleeding Campus Breach
dungeonA chaotic rift has torn open near the University Campus, spewing raw, untamed mana. Twisted flora and jagged crystal formations now dominate the area, attracting aggressive manabeasts and radiating an unsettling, cold energy.

- *THE SYSTEM: every living person sees pale blue script — LEVEL (1-50), skills, feats. The System is the only authority on these numbers; prose may never contradict it. Level-ups are STAGED as felt moments with the print LEVEL N/50.
- *DEAD TECH: the Manafall fried every chip and grid. No phones, no internet, no engines, no guns that still cycle (primers cook off unpredictably near mana). Bicycles, bows, blades, and muscle work. Oil lamps and chalk are the new infrastructure.
- *GATES: pocket dungeons that bloom on locations, breathe for days, then seal. Inside: manabeasts, treasure, and a Gate Boss — the living lock. Kill the boss and the gate seals early; its keystone shard passes to the killer.
- *KEYSTONE SHARDS: gate bosses carry keystone shards. Three shards are said to be enough to reach the World Core under the Sinkhole. They are the rarest things on Earth.
- *FACTIONS: the Homefront holds the Bastion (order, walls, drills), the Gatechasers hold the Terminal (dives, glory, loot), the Accord holds the Overpass Bazaar (trade, debts, information). Rivals, not enemies — the Second Wave is everyone's problem.
- *SPILLOVER: at dusk, unstable gates leak lesser manabeasts. Wall duty is real combat and the fastest honest way to level.
- *MANABEASTS: gate-born creatures — glass-boned hounds, sparkmoths, dray-golems of fused cars. They are not undead and not demons; they are the Tutorial's livestock.
- *THE SECOND WAVE: the Sinkhole downtown is a mega-gate that has never closed. It is widening. The System counts down to something no one can read yet.
- *NEWCOMERS: people still arrive from the outskirts at LEVEL 1. Enclaves compete politely for promising ones.
- *APPRAISAL: relics and treasures out of gates need appraising — the Accord's trade. A wrong appraisal has started feuds.
- *THE STACKS: the public library survives as neutral ground where Professor Ellis Grant maps the System's grammar. All factions honor its truce.
- *LEVEL CULTURE: levels are public courtesy in Halden — people introduce themselves with them, walls post them, duels respect them. Asking someone's level is polite; lying about it is not.
- *NO REVIVAL: death is death. The System does not resurrect. This is why the walls matter.
- *TRAVEL: chalk arrows mark the safe roads (Route 9 ring). Off the chalk, spillover territory.
