Enrolled dead last. The board updates tonight. Nineteen years after the Cascade woke resonance in the world's youth, Vantage Academy sorts its 347 students on a public Rank Board that decides everything — housing, license grade, the shape of your whole life after graduation. You arrive at rank #347, unattuned, Grade F. But traits are not chosen here; they SURFACE. The Reading is watching how you meet the world, and at your First Attunement it will answer in kind. Climb the board, join a society, duel in the sanctioned Arena — and maybe notice that every year-end #1 in the academy's history "graduated early on an overseas scholarship" and was never heard from again.

Current World State

The Proving Grounds have officially opened baseline assessment dockets under Proctor Faris and Selka following Veers Vagrant's verified check-in, drawing crowds of eager first-years. Concurrently, open platform drills and sanctioned sparring commenced in the Sanctioned Arena as Wallace Phylund settled platform dues with Rurik, prompting Dorian Cross and League marshals to ready the chalk rings. The infirmary experiences a brief commotion as students react to the opening arena drills. Nikos's sudden dash from the infirmary toward the arena injects a fresh wave of competitive energy into the recovering students. The infirmary restores order after Nikos's abrupt exit, with proctors securing diagnostic telemetry as arena excitement echoes through the academy. My chest still heaves, the thrum of my gauntlet fading as I turn to Kade. "Does it count?" I demand, the words sharp. The obsidian disc rises, humming, pulling at something deep inside me. As my awakened gauntlet extends, an ember-orange light flares, mirroring the fire in my veins. Kade steps back. "Resonance family: AMP." The words hit me like a physical blow, solidifying everything. My technique, my creation—it's real.

Dormitory Halls

building

Three long residence blocks where the whole student body sleeps, sorted loosely by year and not at all by rank — which makes the halls the one place a #346 and a #3 share a laundry room. Curfew is real, enforcement is human, and the common kitchens at midnight are where the academy actually talks. Mina Callahan's room is two doors down from the newest enrollee's.

Lecture Wing

building

The academic spine of the campus: resonance theory halls, licensing-law seminars, and the homerooms where each cohort's Readings and evaluation schedules are announced. Instructor Kade's homeroom is on the second floor, and his door is the one with no motivational poster. The wing smells of chalk and ozone — theory classes discharge more resonance than the syllabus admits.

Proving Grounds

training_ground

Open-air training yards behind the Lecture Wing: resonance-scarred earth, target frames, and the low humming suppression fences that keep practice from becoming property damage. This is where facets get drilled and where evaluations' practical trials are usually staged. Anyone may train here; everyone is watched while they do — the yards are the second-most public place on campus after the board itself.

Rank Board Plaza & Main Gate

district

The heart of Vantage Academy: a broad stone plaza inside the main gate, dominated by the Rank Board — a towering public display of 347 names that updates every night and has never once been wrong. The motto arch over the gate reads THE BOARD DOES NOT LIE. Every morning begins here, with four hundred students reading their own names before they read anything else. Beyond the gate, the night market street hums after dark — food stalls, phone-charm vendors, and the city looking in at the academy that looks only at itself.
