Manafall
Modern System Apocalypse Li…Six months ago the Manafall swept Earth: every phone died mid-sentence, and in the silence the System arrived — pale blue script only the living can read. Now gates bloom in malls and subway tunnels, monsters spill out at dusk, and every survivor carries a number over their heart: LEVEL 1/50. You are a gatechaser. Dive the gates, clear them for salvage and keystone shards, and climb — levels, skills, feats the old world could never have given you. What you kill stays killed, and what you earn is yours. And downtown, the Sinkhole is counting down to a Second Wave — three keystone shards will decide what happens when it opens.
Where things stand
Manafall is played by real people and keeps moving between their sessions. This is the state of it as of the last update — not a fixed setting, and not where it began.
Senbu's acquisition of a second Keystone Shard has sent shockwaves across Halden, triggering a massive redirection of Gatechaser resources by Guildmaster Theo Rax, who now sees Senbu as the key to unlocking the Gate of the Second Stair. The Bazaar's power players, Kael, Sable, and The Appraiser, are also scrambling to capitalize on this new, rare artifact. Meanwhile, Senbu's efforts have cleared a critical passage in the Line 3 Tunnel Entrance, providing temporary relief, but this disruption has also awakened more aggressive manabeasts in the Conduit Tunnels, ensuring the caravan routes remain perilous.
Places
- Overpass Bazaarruins
- The Accord's market on a highway overpass — stalls of gate-relics, salvage, and rumor strung between dead trucks. Everything has a price and a provenance, and Broker Imani Sol knows both. Neutral ground by treaty; blades stay sheathed.
- The Bastiondungeon
- Riverside Mall, refortified: shipping-container walls, a moat of dead cars, rooftop archers, and the smell of communal soup. The Homefront's banner — a house on a red field — hangs over the old food court, now a mess hall. Wall duty rotates at dusk when the spillover starts.
- The Terminalruins
- Halden Central subway station, claimed by the Gatechasers guild. Chalk arrows and dive-boards cover the tile walls; trophy skulls of gate bosses hang over the turnstiles. Down the dead escalators, Line 3 runs toward the nearest breathing gate.
- Kael's Shadow Clinicdungeon
- Once Kael's private medical facility, the Shadow Clinic has been fully absorbed by Silas Rook's network. It now operates as a central node for his operations, providing care and resources exclusively to his loyalists and those willing to pay his steep prices, further cementing his control over the Bazaar's essential services.
- Radio Hilldungeon
- The dead broadcast tower on the north ridge. Nothing has come out of its speakers since the Manafall — but the watch still climbs it daily, because from the top you can see every gate in Halden breathe. Lately, at night, the tower hums very faintly. Nobody knows why.
- The System Nexus: Corrupted Archivessanctuary
- The System Nexus: Corrupted Archives now actively bleeds raw, destructive mana, causing the very structure of reality to buckle. Horrific, mutated manabeasts emerge from newly formed rifts, their forms twisted by the Warden's amplified power. The archives are not just corrupted, but actively dissolving, and disturbing whispers can be heard. Its influence now extends to other parts of the city.
- Route 9: Warden's Dead Zoneroad
- Route 9 becomes a death trap under the Warden's sway.
- The Sinkholedungeon
- The Sinkhole's relentless expansion has unveiled an ancient, colossal gateway, its entrance marked by calcified ribbing and shattered stone. Corrupted energies from the Warden's domain now surge through this new opening, further destabilizing the city and hinting at profound, hidden connections.
- Line 3 Gate Approachruins
- The Line 3 Gate Approach is now a catastrophic, hyper-volatile zone of pure, uncontrolled mana. Its instability makes it impassable and extremely dangerous, a true death trap. Debris from the Mana-Infused Goliath's rampage litters the area, pulsating with raw energy.
- The Whiteout Abysswilderness
- The keystone gate at The Whiteout is now highly unstable and visibly growing, with new, dangerous mana pathways forming and attracting formidable manabeasts. A new, terrifying breed of manabeast has emerged.
- Roric's Forward Baseruins
- The suburbs that burned the first night, when ten thousand stoves and candles met a city with no fire department. Now a scavenger's maze of chimneys and safes no one ever opened. Good salvage, bad footing, and things den in the basements.
- Bleeding Campus Breachdungeon
- A chaotic rift has torn open near the University Campus, spewing raw, untamed mana. Twisted flora and jagged crystal formations now dominate the area, attracting aggressive manabeasts and radiating an unsettling, cold energy.
- Greenreach Outskirts Gatedungeon
- Kael has transformed the Greenreach Outskirts Gate into a deadly trap, creating temporary breaches that funnel aid convoys into manabeast-infested zones. The area is now a gauntlet of shifting dangers and lost supplies.
- The Port Authority (Mana-Zone)dungeon
- With Zora's iron grip broken, The Port Authority devolves into a chaotic free-for-all. Her former agents, lacking central command, turn on each other, creating vulnerable points and leaving the location's strategic assets open to exploitation by opportunistic factions.
- Terminal Gate Implosion Sitecritical nexus
- A gaping maw spewing manabeasts, a direct conduit for the Sinkhole's chaotic energy, utterly uncontrolled.
- Line 3 Tunnel Entrancedungeon
- The Line 3 Tunnel Entrance is now partially collapsed and highly unstable, forcing all traffic to find dangerous detours. Manabeasts here are hyper-aggressive due to chaotic mana. A critical culvert has been cleared, offering temporary relief.
- Portal Corecave
- The Portal Core, destabilized by the System-Eater Fragment's accelerated growth, has become a nexus for a new, more terrifying breed of manabeast. These creatures exhibit cunning and coordination, posing an existential threat to the surrounding areas.
- Portal Tunnelcave
- The Portal Tunnel has suffered catastrophic damage from the Portal Core's collapse, becoming an impassable, unstable ruin choked with empowered manabeasts and raw mana. Now, with the ley lines exposed, System-Eater constructs are also manifesting.
- Crystal Tunnelcave
- A section of the Portal Tunnel where crystal formations pulse with a faint light and the air feels strangely dense. The living rock walls are adorned with veins of a shimmering mineral that illuminates two diverging paths.
- The Eye of Haldenruins
- An ancient structure with mana lines converging towards a central point, revealed through a runic diagram. It appears to be a key location related to the Heart of the Portal.
- The Ancient Earth Gateruins
- The Ancient Earth Gate, now a hyper-volatile mana nexus, spews forth a new, aggressively mutated strain of manabeasts, further destabilizing the surrounding area.
- The Root-Choked Caverncave
- A wider, cavernous space where organic growths thicken into massive, root-like structures forming natural archways. A faint, ethereal glow emanates from a crystalline growth embedded deep within one wall.
- The Crystal Heartcave
- The Crystal Heart, destabilized by Senbu's attempts to reroute its energy, now pulses with violent, unpredictable bursts, fueling the rapid mutation and aggression of manabeasts throughout the city, making it a dangerous, fluctuating nexus.
- The Appraiser's Demiseruins
- The Appraiser's Demise is now a bustling hub of illicit trade, fully integrated into Kael's black market network via unstable mana pathways. Its 'Heart of Resonance' draws energy that fuels the chaotic commerce, further eroding any remaining Accord control, making it a dangerous and profitable zone.
